TL;DR: Take your filament out of the feeders and dry your PLA for 8h @ 55C
Bambu can’t figure out what temp you should dry your PLA at.
The boxes say 55C, the wiki says 50C, the AMS says 45C, and the store page used to say 55C.
Support tells me 50C, but sends me a box label that says 55C.
The PLA Pure TDS says:
Blast Drying Oven: 50 °C, 8h
X1 Series & P Series & H2 Series Printer Heatbed: 60 - 70 °C, 12 h
AMS 2 Pro & AMS HT:
Filament inserted state: 45°C, 12h
non-inserted state: 55°C, 8h
Just go for 8h @ 55C if you’re using an AMS.
The AMS2 PLA Temp Compromise #
When the AMS 2 Pro first came out, the default PLA drying settings were 8h @ 55C. It still says used to say that on the store product page.
Why does the AMS 2 Pro default to 12h @ 45C? #
Bambu didn’t allow you to dry if the filament was inserted into the feeders when the AMS 2 and AMS HT were first released. A lot of people complained about this.
The problem is that PLA @ 55C will soften in the feeders, which would probably cause a huge amount of customer support issues.
To enable drying while filament was inserted into the feeders, Bambu changed the default drying settings to 12h @ 45C.
That’s probably fine, but you can definitely dry better and faster if you take the filament out of the feeders and run it hotter.
